Franklin is adding a new string to its bow by integrating the Data & Cyber expertise of Merav Griguer and her internationally recognised team.
Continuing its active development strategy, Franklin, the independent commercial law firm, is acquiring Merav Griguer’s unique expertise in data protection, digital and cybersecurity law, as she joins the firm, along with her team.
With nearly 20 years’ experience gained in major intellectual property and new technology firms, Merav Griguer has developed an expertise, renowned in France and internationally, in data protection, supporting innovative projects and cybersecurity; an expertise drawn together in a Data & Cyber unit and driven by advice which is fundamentally Ethical by Design.
The modernness and strategic dimension of her approach to data, innovation and cybersecurity is particularly appreciated by her clients, who are predominantly CAC 40 companies and large French groups, and are European, indeed world leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, telecoms, distribution and sports sectors, as well as promising start-ups, notably some of the French unicorns. Merav Griguer also works as a consultant with institutions on government projects and draft legislation, as well as for NGOs on a pro bono basis.
Merav Griguer is particularly engaged with her ecosystem, being jointly responsible since 2014 for teaching Personal Data Protection and Cybersecurity in the Digital Law Masters 2 degree of the University of Paris II Panthéon Assas, which she teaches alongside Thomas Dautieu, the Compliance Director of CNIL (French data protection authority). She is also the founder and the Scientific and Educational Director of the DPO Certificate of Science Po Paris, a business executive training programme established in 2017.
Her excellent expertise, described in the market as leading, has earned her strong recognition from her peers and clients. She has been recognised every year in the rankings of commercial law firms, notably winning Best Lawyer’s Lawyer of the Year award in Personal Data Protection in 2022 and was identified by Leaders League as being among the 31 up-and-coming lawyers in La Relève. She is also recognised by the Legal 500 in the Data Protection & Privacy and IT & Internet rankings, who highlighted her great responsiveness and agility as well as her dedication and tailored support in crisis management situations and on sensitive files.
Joining Franklin was a natural choice for Merav Griguer: “The combination at Franklin of an independent French structure and a strong international dimension reflects my clients, most of whom are large French businesses established in several countries and known worldwide. I was drawn to the entrepreneurial model of this multidisciplinary firm, which allows me to offer my clients a global platform of legal services, while guaranteeing absolute independence and providing my clients with assurance on various matters, including with our data protection system, a crucial issue in my field. Moreover, I found a commercial approach at Franklin and a deep attachment to the values of dignity and ethics inherent in the legal profession, which are particularly dear to me. It was also, and above all, meeting people with strong, caring and inspiring personalities, who can give my career a second wind. “
The Managing Partners add: “We were impressed by Merav’s innovative approach to Data & Cyber: a team of legal technicians, delivering cutting-edge expertise combined with tailored creative advice that takes account of the digital economy’s ethical issues. As well as this coming together making complete sense due to our having many clients in common, her joining will allow us to satisfy the strong demand from our client base and to expand the range of services we provide. With data & cybersecurity now pervasive across all areas of law, Merav and her team will work closely with all parts of the firm. This arrival aligns perfectly with our strategy of creating synergies across our different centres of expertise. “
